Eto’o Becomes MTN Brand Ambassador

Samuel Eto’o Fils, African footballer of all times, winner of the African Nations Cup in 2000 and 2002, Sydney Olympic gold medalist and the best scorer in the history of the African Nation’s Cup, is now MTN brand Ambassador.

The four times African player of the year, three times winner of the European Champions League and the only player to have realised a hat-trick with two different clubs was presented to the public during a press conference in Yaounde chaired by MTN Cameroon CEO, Philisiwe Sibiya.

Following the partnership, Eto’o’s image would be used in a new MTN campaign and Eto’o is also set to be associated with different MTN campaigns and initiatives towards youths.

“Eto’o symbolises excellence, an insatiable competitor who made his dream as an athlete by believing in his potential and means to attain heights and remain the best,” Sibiya stated.
To the MTN Cameroon boss, the marriage between MTN and Eto’o is a natural association of two big African superiorities.

“Samuel Eto’o, the greatest African player of all times, who is a loved and respected icon in the world and rose from grass to grace, thanks to his hard work, shares a similar story with MTN, an enterprise created in Africa by Africans which has succeeded in imposing its mark in African telecommunications and a world reference in an industry driven by technology,” she reiterated.

Sibiya explained that the choice of Samuel Eto’o to be associated with the leader of telecommunications in the country falls within the context of a new promise by MTN to Cameroonians, which is amazing excellence.

She maintained that an exciting long journey has just started towards an amazing future with the MTN Brand Ambassador.
MTN Cameroon officials traced the idea of partnering with the football icon to Facebook where Eto’o has about eight million followers and how a message on social media prompted the striker to help a sick boy, the origin of the expression, ‘#Eto’o Can’.

For Eto’o, it was a pleasure to partner with MTN, a company which he says “has a vision and sees what others don’t.”
He said, to be the best, there is need to exceed one’s limits, adding that he would use the opportunity of the partnership to help the fight against Boko Haram and health care with the pavilion he is building at Laquintinie Hospital.

The partnership between the Samuel Eto’o Fils and MTN is founded on amazing stories of humble beginnings, leading, staying on top.

After the ceremony, there was a photo session at the MTN head office in Yaounde and a crowd-pulling event in Douala as Eto’o sent out Facebook messages calling on fans to turn out for autographs at the MTN office at Akwa Douala.
